I'm really starting to feel like I can do this... all of this :)
Went for a run today and I was able to complete it exactly as written. 5 intervals of 4 minutes running and 1 minute walking for a total of 25 minutes. Not only did I finish but every one of my running intervals was a 13:50 pace or faster average pace, with one as low as 12:13... yeah, that's right I was running in the 12min/mile range! yay! Yes, I was in a lot of pain when I finished but emotionally I was on cloud nine!
Now if I could just be as positive about this fund raising thing.
BTW - anyone have tips on how to approach businesses for contributions? Cause I think that's my next step.
I'm also trying to set up a 'variety show' event involving some of my friends who do burlesque, so if you're in the SF area be sure to watch for that and come see the show!!
Oh yeah - and including a 5 minute warm-up and 5 minute cool down, I went 2.32 miles tonight.

You can and you will, Shawn! Believe! Let me think about your fund-raising question because that needs to be my next step, too.
Great to hear you're feeling positive about doing this!
For businesses, I think it depends on what you're asking for. I found that very few will actually give cash donations so you might probably do better asking for a non-cash donation that can be used to help raise funds via your fundraiser (i.e., supplies, food, etc) in exchange for helping to advertise for their business (lists of sponsors, flyers, etc). If you plan to have a unique and sizable FR event, write a press release to attract some TV or newspaper media and that too can be included in your letter to businesses you solicit for sponsorship.
OH, and I forgot to mention raffle prizes (dinner, travel, spa packages, etc) as one of the things that businesses are often able to donate. Then sell raffle prize tix at your event for extra FR.
just give the pitch and then say....
what can I put you down for"?
Assume they will give...
don't take no for an answer
good luck
and happy belated birthday
Shirley and JT have great ideas. I am not sure where you work, but we can soliciate at work (with approval for the cause).
